No Win for Token Folk Album

Unsurprising the token folk album, the wonderful Anglicana by Eliza Carthy, didn’t win the Mercury Music Prize.
And when I heard a song by the winner, all I heard was something that sounded like a bloke trying to sound like a drum, and a man doing some rapping, interspersed with a shrieky woman.
Apparently this is good enough to win such a prestigous award. Am I missing something?
