DVD Grinding Noises

Over the last few months, we’ve been doing a Babylon 5 marathon – working our way through season 1 and 2 and getting to season 3.

We’d done the first two DVDs in the six DVD set of the season, and lo… Put DVD three in player. Player makes loud grinding noise. It still plays but the noise is so much that you can’t really hear the programme properly. It’s the same for the fifth disc.

It’s not the first time this has happened. A Ealing Comedies Box Set went back after about four different copies all had the same problem on two of the disks.

It’s very annoying and I’m completely stumped what to do. It seems likely that it’s fault on the DVDs, but what on earth do you do? If it’s a batch problem, you’re completely screwed as there is the potential for every DVD to be affected which means I stand f-all chance of getting it solved without shelling out more cash.

So what to do? I can find nothing of any use on Google which doesn’t help, and the only thing I can actually think of is buying a new DVD player which will hopefully play these obviously dodgy disks. Which is not particularly good when you consider that my current DVD player is just over a year old.

It’s all just a bit crap really.
