Lunch and Stroll in Hampstead
Posted on 31 July 2005 in Food and Drink. (0 comments)
Every now and then, you want to go out for a good Sunday lunch. There’s something so good about going out for Sunday lunch - having a nice meal, reading the paper and so on, with perhaps a nice stroll afterwards. Today on a whim we decided to head for somewhere where a good Sunday lunch would be almost guarenteed. Today we headed for the poshness of Hampstead.
Button Envy

Okay I’ll admit it. I have big red button envy. I want a big red button of my own that will rush BBCi into breaking news mode too.
Is She, Isn’t She…

Train is very busy. People are left on the platform. You notice a woman stood next to you. Her belly looks slightly big. You cautiously attempt to look at her face just to make sure she’s not just well built. She could be pregnant. It could just be the way she’s standing due to her grabbing on to the rail. You’re just not sure.
Going Digital (Text)

There’s now an indepth report on the analogue TV switch off trial that recently occurred in Ferryside, Wales. It’s quite a long document but it was the small section on digital text services that caught by eye - especially the user reactions to them in a world where they’d be unable to get Ceefax.
Namedropping

Yesterday I walked past Chris Langham on my way to the canteen. Cool!

Good golly Miss Molly, it’s been three years since this little old thing went online. Blimey.
Push The Button

What with one thing and another, Friday turned out to be a pretty hectic day at work and as such, I completely forgot about asking if the big red button, is actually big and red.
Neighbours
Posted on 25 July 2005 in TV Programmes. (0 comments)
I have a TV on my desk. It’s usually turned on. Today it was turned on during Neighbours. Today in Neighbours, Sky Mangle meets Harold’s new friend. Harold’s new friend looks just like Sky’s dead mother.
Tale of Two PayPal Emails
Posted on 24 July 2005 in Internet. (0 comments)
I seem to be on the list for attempts to con me out of cash using ebay and Paypal. I get a substantial amount of them per day, whilst Catherine (oddly) gets none.
Two Stops and One Bag

It made me feel incredibly lazy, but yesterday I did it. Yes, I got the tube for one stop between Shepherds Bush and White City.
Journey Home
Posted on 21 July 2005 in Transport. (0 comments)
Shepherds Bush. What an odd place to target. And what a bloomin’ nuisance. The whole of Shepherd’s Bush Green was sealed off as I set off for home. Which left me with an interesting problem - how to get to Kensington Olympia so I could get my train to Clapham?
A Tale Of Two Services

The bbc.co.uk homepage has an option of a ‘big red button’ which BBC News can use to publish a news story into the main promo slot. One press of the button and it all happens in a flash. Over on BBCi, we do things a bit more manually.
Albino Peacock

Peacocks. They’re pretty impressive creatures with their fancy plumage - their tail feather display designed to woo and impress the peahens. So I naturally couldn’t help but wonder how much luck this albino peacock has.

The BBC’s new Open Source portal went live today, giving the public a single site to look at for all the software projects that the BBC has released under various open source projects.
Police, Controlled Explosions and a Tube Challange

Police outside the stations, controlled explosions at work and a charity tube challenge.
Grr Mandriva 2

I gave up on Red Hat some time after because I’d updated my copy and everything went wrong. Nothing worked properly - it was a mess. I went onto Mandrake. And it was great.
Less Stones, More Plants
Posted on 9 July 2005 in House. (0 comments)
Recently I began to think about doing something with the small flower bed that sits at the end of the drive. When we moved in, there was a narrow strip for plants and behind that was mostly piles of pebbles and stones - lots of them. It was time for a change. And fewer stones.
London, Today

It will hurt - it does hurt - but if there is one thing we will do, it’s show them that we will not hide, we will not cower, we will not fear.
myCommute Prototype
Posted on 5 July 2005 in Web Development. (0 comments)
Some time ago I mentioned backstage.bbc.co.uk and a couple of ideas I’d had around travel feeds. Well I’ve been messing around and I’m happy to announce that myCommute now has a working prototype.

It has just taken me thirty five minutes to log into my PC this evening. For those thirty five minutes, the X server just refused to boot up. Why, I am at a loss to know. The graphical login page just returned me to itself.

Today I got my new copy of the BBC Editorial Guidelines. A hefty tome at 226 pages. There’s even half a page about interactive TV.
