- 31 October 2005: Buzz Off
- As you may or may not have heard, the BBC Broadcast has renamed itself. It’s done this cos it’s not part of the BBC, being now owned as it is, by an Australian bank, who are of course an obvious owner for the company.
- 31 October 2005: Oh, Sweet Internet!
- Oh thank goodness for that. I have internet access again. I wasn’t quite sure how I could live without checking my emails for a few hours!
- 30 October 2005: Ubuntu Upgrade
- I can see it now. In forty years time, little children will be running up to us saying "Daddy, daddy! Tell us again about the old days when to upgrade your computer operating system, you had to wipe the whole thing and start everything all over again". And I’ll laugh and go, "Well little ones, sit down and I’ll tell you all about it…".
- 25 October 2005: Credit Card
- Rather oddly I’ve just had a call from Mint querying some transactions on my credit card. I’d wondered if something was up when I came to pay for my newly upgraded travelcard at Colliers Wood tube station, and the guy in the ticket office had to phone up to get the card confirmed. Then at Sainsburys I had the same problem - I just put the whole £8 on a different card.
- 25 October 2005: Back To Zone 1
- And so all good things must come to an end. And by that, I mean a real end. Yes, I’ve put Zone 1 back on my Travelcard.
- 24 October 2005: SQLized
- Well all good things must come to an end. After over three years, I’ve finally moved Movable Type over to using mySQL instead of the old Berkley DB database. Wiith several hundred posts in it, things were just getting a little too slow to work with, so it had to go.
- 23 October 2005: Iceland 2005 (Day 8)
- On 19 August 2005 Catherine and myself flew out to Iceland for a ten night touring holiday round Iceland. We drove round the country and saw many an exciting and interesting thing. This is one of many blog posts about that holiday - it’s now day 8, and we’re in the tourist zone. Geysirs, ancient parliament sites and more waterfalls.
- 22 October 2005: Trafalgar Mad
- I don’t know what it’s like anywhere else in the country, but Merton has officially gone Trafalgar Mad. Little did we know when we arranged to meet in the Colliers Tup that we’d be there during a Trafalgar Day Party (late license to 1am, live music, and bar staff dressed in naval uniforms).
- 20 October 2005: Moving The Type
- For well over a year or so, I’ve been working, in my spare time, on a content management project for the erstwhile Transdiffusion - a project which has, ultimately, resulted in the neglect of this blog, the upload of my photos and goodness knows what else.
- 18 October 2005: Success Criteria
- A month ago I blogged about a project we’d launched on BBCi on Satellite where the result would be that the average user wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between what was there before, and what was there now.
- 17 October 2005: Iceland 2005 (Day 7)
- On 19 August 2005 Catherine and myself flew out to Iceland for a ten night touring holiday round Iceland. We drove round the country and saw many an exciting and interesting thing. This is one of many blog posts about that holiday - this particular post is about day seven where we drove along the south of Iceland, admired several waterfalls, drove up an appalling road and admired lots of black sand.
- 15 October 2005: Your Leave Request
- Wow. Either someone has decided I can take 17 months off work, and only decided to tell me 10 months in, or someone was testing a new system.
- 13 October 2005: Northern Line
- So we all get in a stupid mess, and trains are withdrawn on safety grounds and I have hassles getting into work because the entire tube line is shut.
- 12 October 2005: Paying For Time
- A discussion in the canteen recently involved around one of my colleagues saying about how he is less inclined to do DIY and more inclined to get someone in to do things - it’s about balancing up how much your free time is worth in comparison to the cost of getting someone in.
- 9 October 2005: Iceland 2005 (Day 6)
- On 19 August 2005 Catherine and myself flew out to Iceland for a ten night touring holiday round Iceland. We drove round the country and saw many an exciting and interesting thing. This is one of many blog posts about that holiday - this particular post is about day six where we saw icebergs, glacial tongues, basalt columns and a very nice gorge!
- 6 October 2005: Satellite Signal Found
- I know, I know. You’re all desperate to know what the state of play is on my satellite signal. I can tell this because of the flood of emails that have been bombarding my email address ever since I first mentioned the problems.
- 4 October 2005: Protection Racket
- I don’t often comment on news stories but I loved the Media Guardian article about the fact that 90% of entertainment companies are failing to protect their products from illegal online use, and that only 50% of products have any protection.
- 4 October 2005: Online TV Gateways
- The Guardian’s Emily Bell seems to suggest that that the iMP is the bold new world for the BBC, and that the BBC backed service could be opened up to ‘host’ services from Channel 4 and ITV. The suggestion is a sort of TV programme version of Google News - do a search and find legal-to-download programmes.
- 2 October 2005: Iceland 2005 (Day 5)
- On 19 August 2005 Catherine and myself flew out to Iceland for a ten night touring holiday round Iceland. We drove round the country and saw many an exciting and interesting thing. This is one of many blog posts about that holiday - this particular post is about day five. A day of stones, rocks, fjords and a stunning glimpse of the glaciar.
- 2 October 2005: Decorated Result
- It was about six months ago that an epic journey was started. A journey that would see a complete redefinition of the way I lived my life. A journey that would shake the foundations of the world I lived in. It’s impact is larger than can be imagined. Yes. I started decorating.
