31 January 2007: BBC’s iPlayer to go beyond Microsoft XP?
As a GNU/Linux user myself, the thought of the BBC’s iPlayer being Windows XP only, wasn’t one I particularly relished. So I was particularly interested in the reports that the BBC Trust have told the BBC management that iPlayer must take a more platform agnostic approach.
29 January 2007: Yet Another Blog Post About Heating
So on Saturday night the pilot light started going out again. Sunday morning I re-lit it in order to warm up the house. But before that, I blew away some dust from the front of the heating unit. Since then, the heating pilot light has remained on and we’ve had a warm house. Go figure.
28 January 2007: Wishful Dreams
I know reading about problems with my central heating isn’t the most exciting thing in the world. Indeed it’s nowhere near exciting. So I’ll allow you to ignore this post if you like. I’m posting it mainly because it’s good therapy to get it off my chest.
26 January 2007: Heating, Water and Cylinders
It’s funny - when I was talking to people at work about the fact that I’d be working from home today waiting for the engineer to come and look at the hot water (he’s been now and hopefully all will be fine) everyone seemed very surprised that our heating system was merrily away chugging along after 23 years of service.

The BBC’s Fifteen Web Principles
11 January 2007: Three closures, one opening and some snow
I feel a bit like the grim reaper having recently been the person who took the life away from two BBCi sections which closed this week.
10 January 2007: Wired for Sound
So here’s the story with getting the sound working again on my new Ubuntu Edgy Eft setup.
10 January 2007: AppleTV? No drolling necessary
I’m sure half the blogosphere is busy drooling over the iPhone right now, but I was more interested in hearing about the Apple TV. Well I was interested until I actually took my eyes away from a very average looking grey box, and looked at the detail instead.
8 January 2007: It’s been six months. Time to moan and winge about upgrading Linux again
I’ve just been reminded why I tend not to bother upgrading my Linux setup very often. It generally causes more headaches than benefits…
4 January 2007: Cakes, Stars and Specifications
I’m currently sat at my desk at home staring at pictures of cakes and stars. There’s a reason for this. And it’s to do with work.
