Eurovision 2008 - good grief, the UK's picked a decent song!

Whilst sitting down to a nice, homemade green Thai curry last night, we happened to catch the second half of Eurovision: Your Decision last night which meant I got to see a strange woman in a corset and an extremely short skirt, Michelle Gayle and Andy Abraham battle it out in front of Terry Wogan sat on a throne in a programme format which was clearly designed to try and stop the UK public from voting for some diabolical crap again.

Now I have to say, I didn't vote. Nor did I catch the follow-up show later that evening where Andy battled it out against Michelle Gayle. So I can't be held responsible for the result.

To view this video you need Flash 9, or above, installed. If you have Flash and still can't see this video, you can watch it via YouTube

Watch Andy's performance and make up your own mind (probably UK only)

Which is a real shame, because for the first time in YEARS, I actually like this years Eurovision entry. I think it was the best of the bunch by far. It has a catchy disco beat and makes me want to get up and dance, so for me, that's a good sign. Andy's a good singer and it's a good, credible song for what is supposed to be a song contest.

For me this song is exactly what we needed to enter. The UK's attempts to do "quirky" inevitably fall on death ears (generally because they're utter crap). Our attempts at pop fail because the rest of Europe seems to be on a completely different pop planet to ours, and the UK's attempts to try and tune into their pop methods generally fall on death ears (because our attempts are utter crap, thanks to us not getting it).

This year, what Andy will be delivering will be something timeless and something that lots of different people in lots of different countries can hopefully enjoy. Hey, this is a song that I might even be persuaded to buy. And that's saying something.

Will we win? Time will tell. However I think Andy's song gives us an excellent entry and frankly, if we don't get into the top half of the results table with an entry of this calibre, well we might as well not even bother in 2009.

Saturday 24 May 2008 is the big day. Good luck Andy - I've got such a good feeling about this one, that I think I'll invite a load of people round for beer, wine and home made pizza...
