There's a wonderful bit in the Simpsons where Bart is walking through a shopping mall. He passes loads and loads of Starbucks to go into a shop called "In and Out Piercing" and asks to get his ear pierced. "Well, better make it quick, kiddo. In five minutes this place is becoming a Starbucks." As he leaves with his new earring, every store in the mall is a Starbucks. It's a brilliant piece of satire on what the coffee revolution felt like sometimes. But it couldn't last. And lo, Coffee Republic's now gone under.
