First Ever Games Console

Throughout my life, computers have always reigned supreme. The first was a Dragon 32, followed by a ZX Spectrum +. An Atari STE came next, then a 386DX-40. After that it all went a bit blurry, but there’s been several upgrades and new machines. Our house now contains a desktop PC, two laptops (one nine years old) and a very shiny and new netbook.

It just worked straight away - using a 3G dongle on Linux at Beebcamp

I’ve never had any experience with 3G dongles, and I must confess I approached plugging one into my Dell Mini with some trepidation. I’d heard scare stories of faffing with config files and other horribleness. I remembered a whopping four page feature in Linux Format on “how to get 3G dongles working.” I mean - four pages. That means it certainly wasn’t going to be easy…

Beebcamp 3

Friday 27 November saw BeebCamp 3 hit the BBC - a BBC type unconference run for BBC staff. Lots of people will probably blog about the event far better than I ever could but I’ll give it a go.

Outed as the man hating man I am

Moment of the week last week was when I was shown an email to The F-Word Towers pointing out that if you search for “man” or “men” on the site then nothing happens. There are no results.

Magic of NBH

Posted on 13 November 2009 in BBC (No comments yet - be the first!)

Back when I was aged 9 in what we’d now call Year 4 at primary school, we had to get together in small groups to do a project together. The result was to create a sort of combined report on the chosen subject.

Just Google It

Martin Belam’s written before about the trend of adverts to tell you to search for “something” rather than give a web address to remember. It’s happening more and more, however normally the ads give you just a bit more to go on that this advert that was plastered around Dublin on a recent visit there.

The heart-stopping moment when you think the PC has been totally wiped…

Every now and then when you have a PC you inevitably end up with some near heart attack inducing moment.
