17 October 2007: On the Pennine Way
It was our second stint on the Pennine Way, having done a day and a half on it back at the end of March, doing Gargrave to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, whilst also doing some walking around Malham on day one, and a circular walk around Horton on day three.
23 September 2007: Bonjourrrrr, yah cheese-eatin’ surrender monkeys!
In France, Catherine ate on average 3.2 different cheeses per day. That’s a lot of cheese.
18 September 2007: France 2007 Day 10: Up the Eiffel, and back to Blighty
Up a big tower, to a former hospital, walking the streets, sitting on a train, emerging bleary eyed on the other side of a tunnel.
16 September 2007: France 2007 Day 9: Around Paris
In which our intrepid tourists see everything in black and white, visit lots of churches, get wet, and drink a nice pint of English ale.

It was time to wave goodbye to the south of France, and head to the capital.

29 August 2007: France 2007 Day 6: Abriès to Aiguilles
After a days rest, it was back to the hills again, enjoying the slightly spooky empty hamlet, a big climb, a lovely lake and a long descent.
25 August 2007: France 2007 Day 5: L’Echalp to Abriès
With dodgy knees to relax, it was time for a nice, simple, but very beautiful walk along the river. Plus, of course, a quick look at the fantastic Mount Viso.
18 August 2007: France 2007 Day 4: St-Véran to Molines
With the rain left behind, it was up a hill, then down again to our next stop. Fantastic views, beautiful scenery and… err… painful legs…
12 August 2007: France 2007 Day 3: Ceillac to St-Véran
It’s day three, and time to leave the Hôtel La Cascade. The Col Fromage beckons, followed by the Col des Estronques. Oh and the pretty village of St-Véran.
6 August 2007: France 2007 Day 2: Walking Around Ceillac
It’s 22 July 2007 and time for the first walk of our walking holiday in the Queyras region of France. This days walk - a circular walk of the hills and lakes around Ceillac.

On 21 July 2007, we headed on a multitude of trains towards the Queyras Alps in France. This is part one of that holiday.
24 October 2006: Norway 2006: An appendix on Norwegian road signs
Norway is an interesting country in more than one way. And I have to say, it’s road signs seem to say a lot about it.
21 October 2006: Norway 2006: Day Eleven (Bergen, then home)
If you’re ever in Bergen, let me suggest the Hotel Augustin. It’s a nice place - friendly staff, fair trade coffee, organic tea and at breakfast they have what they call “eco-museli”. There’s lots of “eco” stuff in Bergen. It seems to mean organic. I think. Anyway, the “eco-museli”, perhaps with a spoonfull of rasins, is really nice.
18 October 2006: Norway 2006: Day Ten (Waiting for the bus…)
Shaving woes, hanging around Ulvik for ages, and getting back to Bergen. The penultimate day in the holiday.
17 October 2006: Norway 2006: Day Nine (The Old Post Road)
By now we were becoming regulars on the 08:55 bus out of Ulvik. Today our destination was not far - the nearby town of Granvin. The intention was to walk the old post road back to Ulvik - the road that locals used to take to meet up with the postman before a main road was built to connect Ulvik with Voss.
16 October 2006: Norway 2006: Day Eight (Norway in a Nutshell)

1 October 2006: Norway 2006: Day Four (The English people who thought they were going up a hill, but actually came down a mountain)
“Visit the other side of the fjord!” proclaimed the sign outside Balestrand Tourist Information Office, before proceeding to inform those excited enough to be reading, a list of bus times to Dragsvik - cunningly the small town on the other side of the fjord.
30 September 2006: Norway 2006: Day Three (Fjærlandsfjorden and Glacial Tongues)
With the Jostedalsbreen National Park on our doorstep, a trip up that way was an inevitability.
27 September 2006: Norway 2006: Day Two (To Balestrand)
Norway is a country with a huge amount of fjords, and often the easiest way to get between two places is to use that water. Which is why we found ourselves at 8am stood on board the Fjord 1 Fylkesbaatane express boat, Fjordtroll.
11 September 2006: Norway 2006: Day One (Bergen)
I never really feel like I’ve arrived in a city until I’m standing on the streets of it. That’s the problem with airports. By necessity, they’re in the middle of nowhere, and usually so big that it feels like you have to leave one city then enter a new one!
9 September 2006: Norway 2006: Getting there
Airports. I hate them. They make me stressed.
23 February 2006: Edinburgh
As you might have noticed, I wasn’t in the happiest of bunnies when I last wrote, so In a way, it couldn’t have happened at a better time. On Saturday we went up to Edinburgh to see Catherine’s brother, getting back yesterday.
22 November 2005: Vegetarian Iceland
In August 2005 myself and Catherine went on holiday to Iceland. However there’s one thing that makes any travelling vegetarian nervous, it’s the issue of food. In a special guest post (cos she doesn’t have her own blog), I’ve allowed Catherine to fill up the server with a post about it.

26 June 2005: Two Go To Brighton
Friday was a rare day off for Catherine and myself, so we decided to take ourselves off to the seaside to soak up some sun, and with Brighton being an hour a way, it was there we took ourselves.
18 September 2004: Glasgow: Things To See
Things we saw and did in Glasgow.
6 September 2004: Glasgow Subway (again)
My curiosity often gets the better of me, hence after writing about the Glasgow Subway, I had to find out more about it and its past.
2 September 2004: Glasgow: Pubs
Now it’s a rare person who doesn’t go on holiday and have a pint or two. And I am not one of those people. So naturally we went to the pub.
2 September 2004: Glasgow: Transport
To be honest, we didn’t go far out of the city centre bar the bus trip to and from the…
2 September 2004: Glasgow
We don’t often do stuff at Bank Holiday weekends, but Catherine was going to Glasgow to attend some dull sounding archive conference, so we decided to go up early and make a weekend of it.
16 August 2004: The PR of strikes
I never cease to be surprised by the stupidity of some unions. Any strike is a PR disaster for a union, but some unions seem to revel in making the disruption for the public as great as possible.
