Entries from January 2004
- 30 January 2004: Catherine in The Guardian #3.
- With Hutton, Dyke and phone problems, I almost forgot about Catherine being in the Guardian again yesterday, with some brief views on Sex And The City.
- 30 January 2004: Greg.
- Many people will have seen the staff response to the resignation of Greg Dyke as Director General of the BBC. I like many people were completely gutted by his decision, but he made it and I respect that and his reasons for doing so
- 26 January 2004: Bods tries to use myCokeMusic.com
- I’ve read a lot about myCokeMusic.com - yet another bandwagon jumping music download site - so I thought I’d try it out. And this being my blog, I’d better tell you how it went…
- 25 January 2004: Perfect home: oh where art though?
- Next to the computer is the ‘no pile’ - a pile of paper giving details of a pile of properties. Each has the estate agents description of the place, photograph and dimensions. Stapled to that are some scrawled notes listing my views and opinions of the place. But have we been looking in the wrong place for a place to buy? Or have we been looking in the right place and we’re about to get distracted looking in the wrong one? And does this make any sense?
- 23 January 2004: Routemaster Extinction
- Routemasters. I’ve also always felt some excitment about travelling on them. Jumping on the platform… Those curved stairs. That wonderful design. Those cramped piddly seats… The fact you can’t get a wheelchair on…
- 20 January 2004: CSS Hacked Off.
- CSS hacks are on two levels - documented ‘features’ and undocumented browser bugs. And using the latter could be storing up a whole lodda trouble for the future.
- 20 January 2004: Universal Mysteries, number 1.
- Why oh why oh why is it that when you are bored and want a diversion, there are never any emails, blog posts or new message board posts to read?
- 19 January 2004: Dental Woe.
- Five fillings down, and a crack appears…
- 17 January 2004: The Great Housing Search.
- I’ve kind of resisted writing about buying a house, partially because it’s depressing, and partially because the cost of housing is all anyone talks about in London. If talking about the weather is the national obsession, talking about property prices is the London one.
- 16 January 2004: DVD Grinding Noises.
- Loud grinding noises on some DVD discs. Why? Why? Why? Why can’t things just work properly.
- 14 January 2004: Code navigation for digital teletext.
- Pretty much ever since it was launched, people have been moaning about the lack of page numbers on digital teletext services. But wouldn’t it be interesting to add a little more of a link between the numbers and the content they point to?
- 12 January 2004: Banking Fun.
- Twice I’ve tried to apply for a current account with Intelligent Finance online. And twice it has failed for no apparent reason.
- 12 January 2004: Work Woe.
- Ever had one of those days where you reach a moment realise
that whilst you’ve spent months planning on something working in one way, but right at the last minute, you realise that actually you may be required to implement a completely contradictorary and incompatable way instead?
- 11 January 2004: The Conclusion of Freeserve?
- Sometimes it’s what people don’t say and what they don’t do which proves to be far more revealing that what they do say and what they do do.
- 8 January 2004: Wotsit Wotnot?
- The odd boasts of a packet of crisps.
- 3 January 2004: More Maxims.
- After all that searching for Double Maxim, what should I find in the Ealing branch of Safeway on New Years Eve? You guessed it…
