It is now - wasn't when you originally posted. I made a slight design change :)

Keith Edmonds left a comment on Bods's Guide to Pubs in Merton: The Trafalgar Freehouse:

Visited the Traf on Friday 27th August and witnessed Geoff Cole's Traditional Jazz Band play to a completely packed house. Music = Perfect. Atmosphere = Tremendous. Company = Completely Convivial. Beer = Tip Top (Merton Market Bitter - Ascot). Special attraction - by chance Barry Cryer was in the audience and with a bit of arm twisting gave us a super rendering of Doctor Jazz. What a super afternoon it was (13.00 - 15.00). Thanks Traf - Keith

J9 left a comment on Planning a trip walking on the South Downs Way:

Yeh - first time I have written on a blog - or what ever you call these conversations and I get a reply! Heh so this is modern technology!

Came by your writing by chance, loved it, makes me want to go home, get my get my rucksack on and start walking.........might get a few odd looks in the supermarket though....

Will look forward to reading the Wainwrights Coast to Coast posts - assuming I can find this site again!! Hopefully doing the walk next year, Did the Ridgeway last year - easy walk but still had the wow factor! But then don't they all!!!

Good luck with the job!

Andrew Bowden left a comment on Planning a trip walking on the South Downs Way:

Funny you should ask! I recently finished doing Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk and I've written about it - the first batch of posts will be published over the next two weeks.

Soon I'll be doing the Dales Way as well and at the end of it, finally finishing off the Pennine Way after we were snowed in near the end earlier in the year.

What happens next is a good question, however if I can get the time I'm quite tempted to try the Southern Upland Way in Scotland. Maybe camping it too! We'll see. Much depends if I get redeployment at work when my job moves to Salford, or whether I get made redundant!

Have totally loved reading about your trip - I am starting the walk 6th Sept!

Am interested to know where you plan to walk next? You plan to do 4 long distance walks - is a that correct. Which other walks interest you?

It does now although it didn't used to back in 2007.

Which reminds me I really should make the publication date more visible on these archive posts...

Peter left a comment on Die Bahn, Das Gute:

"If you click on a particular train, it gives you a full breakdown of that trains scheduled stops for the whole route. I've wished that National Rail's site did that for a long time."

it does. if you want, for example, to consult the scheduled stopping times for the UK's longest direct service (the 08.42 Aberdeen - Penzance, yes I do know I'm sad), simply find the train - easiest by searching for "direct trains only" on a day it runs, e.g. next Monday. Then click on "details" then "show calling points", and you will see the times for all 42 (!) of them!

Geoff Whitworth left a comment on The music of early 6music:

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your research. I don't think the issue with the playlist has ever really been the music that comprises it (there are some really good selections on both the 2002 and 2010 listings, and IMHO some real duffers on both!), but the repetition. Coupled with the decision to reduce the A & B lists from 42 tracks to 27, this has resulted in a less that satisfying daytime listening experience.

Checking last.fm for frequency of airplay yesterday, I found that those 27 tracks were played just over 300 times in one week. That's around twenty hours of airtime, nearly a whole day spent plugging away at that same small gene pool. This isn't really an acceptable use of the station's time, consistently promoting such a narrow range of new music during the daylight hours.

Andrew,

How I wish you hadn't shared the link to the article about creating a mobile version of a website! I fear I may be about to lose a bit of my life trying to retrofit a site I run. Grrr.

Thanks for the idea though.

Diana Matthews left a comment on Bods's Cookbook Collection Reviewed - Cranks Recipe Book:

I came across your blog because I Googled for the cranks curry recipe. My English mother-in-law (I'm in the US) brought me a copy of the original Cranks recipe book decades ago. It's been one of my favorite books. I still have it but I recently moved homes and it's still packed up somewhere. It is falling apart, splattered with sauces - but their basic recipes were so simple yet tasty.
Thanks for your interesting review.

Indeed - one of my favouties. I wrote about it in Die Bahn, Das Gut. They now have a UK site (complete with some dodgy translations here and there) at www.bahn.co.uk

Movutomu left a comment on And they wonder why we don't like post offices:

Buying my holiday money from the Post Office supposes that I am prepared to stand in a queue for thirty minutes to save £20.00.

Four serving positions of which only one is occupied - the usual situation.

Finally get to the front to be told that I must present a driving licence with photograph - not my old totally unblemished pink one. Back home to get my passport, find a parking space, and join the queue again.

No mention of needing any ID when I contract to buy the money on line - only when I scrutinise the emailed receipt does it appear.

Wonder what happens if I am at some distant town without documentation. What if I need euros to visit the Republic of Ireland via Belfast - might not have a licence nor passport with me.

Next time will buy at the airport whatever silly adverts the PostOffice waste their money on. My time is more valuable than twenty quid !!

Dr. Dee left a comment on GE Money - incompetance and downright lies:

I have a GE Money Card and have not had any problems--thus far. However, customer service is terrible. The people who answer the phones are rude and unhelpful. I have a balance that I intend to pay off early and I'm hoping there will be no problems. I have noticed, however, that people who have set up direct debits from their checking accounts seem to have the most trouble with GE Money. I pay my bill with a check that I put in the remittance envelope as soon as the bill arrives in the mail. So far, my statements from GE Money have all arrived on time and there has been no problem with GE Money's receiving and crediting my payments. I will keep everyone posted as to how things progress.

Peter left a comment on The Joys of Train Travel Planning in France:

The Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de) website has times for every train in Europe. Won't give you prices on the internet for trains other than German ones, but gives you the times and connections. And it's available in loads of languages too - English, French, Italian etc, in addition to German.

Andrew Bowden left a comment on Vegetarian Iceland:

It will be a bit more difficult, however if it's just eggs (rather than all dairy) then you should be fine. And as a country, it's worth it!

Malay Dave left a comment on Vegetarian Iceland:

Thanks for the wonderful advice. We are vegetarian by birth and food is always a problem during travelling to exotic destinations.

Since we also do not eat eggs - do you think that will be a problem?

Steve Humby left a comment on Wimbledon tennis, buses and the elusive open topped bus:

Gla dyou like the photos and thank you for using it. I woudl always say to visitors going to the Tennis, walk it. It is quicker and on the way home to the Station you can have a pub crawl. I do miss summer evenings in Wimbledon Village. Good article.

I think Nigel you'll find the answers at the top of this page... And I hate to break it to you, but (and I must state this is not my decision) I can 100% guarantee you that Ceefax will NEVER come back once analogue is switched off.
