Well how about the bluntness of the Scon pronunciation?

A Scone is a piece a beauty - a joy and a delight to eat. A nice scone covered in butter, maybe some jam, with perhaps even some clotted cream, is a joy unto itself.

On the other hand, a Scon sounds blunt, hard, harsh and generally dull and boring. The kind of thing that sums up images of gravel and concrete. Not tasty at all.
